Hello from us all at Parklands Dental Practice

Here we are in week 9 of the lockdown, we hope this email reaches you and that you and your family are healthy and well!

We decided to reach out to our patients to tell you how we have been dealing with the new way of life and also how we have, behind the scenes been keeping up to date with research, making changes and improving the practice.

Still here for you

We would firstly like to reassure everyone that we are still here for you! Dental emergencies can be a ‘pain’ at the best of times but what happens if you find yourself dislodging a filling or losing a crown during lockdown?? You may be aware that we have set up an emergency mobile number that you can contact 7 days a week. If you are experiencing any dental problems or need dental advice please get in touch with Katy on 07570 525778.

We are able to triage and provide advice over the phone, remotely prescribe antibiotics if necessary, and we have been delivering temporary filling kits straight to your front door!

Welsh dentist are also able to see patients at their practice for emergency treatment, if necessary. And to reassure you we have been limiting patient footfall to one patient at a time, and we have the correct PPE and safety measures in place.

Our patients are our priority

We have been using this time wisely, attending online webinars and discussing ways in which we can continue to keep our patients safe. We would like to remind you that before the pandemic as a dental practice, cross contamination was always our top priority. Our purpose built decontamination room was designed following the HTM 01-05 dental guidelines, and is comparable to hospital grade sterilisation. All our team undergo training annually and we pride ourselves on our high standards and the care we deliver.

We have recently decided to go above and beyond the current guidance by investing in air sterilization equipment. This will ensure each new patient entering the surgery will be breathing clean air. Our system is the most heavily tested, and has been proven to kill coronavirus, influenza and all other types of viruses, pathogens and allergies – keep posted to our Facebook page for more information on these.
As you enter the practice we will be checking your temperature and before heading into the surgery you will be provided with a patient PPE kit.
You may also notice some other visual changes when you next check in!

Oral health during lockdown

Maintaining good oral health is more important than ever now, with recent studies finding a direct correlation between oral hygiene and COVID-19 complications.

We plan to rearrange patients to be seen as soon as possible, with extended hours and further availability. But in the meantime here are Kaye’s tips to keeping your oral hygiene in tip top condition:

  • Brush twice a day for at least 2 minutes, Floss or use tepes daily
  • Try not to snack on sugary products
  • Keep smoking to a minimum – now maybe the time to quit!
  • Invest in a water flosser if you have been seeing the hygienist every 3 months – brands include WaterPik
  • Phone for advice if you have any gum swelling
  • Most importantly KEEP SMILING!

Connect with us

We would love to stay connected with you – please follow us on Facebook and Instagram @parklandsdentalpractice

Some of you may have watched our live Q+A with Sam where we tried to answer some of the dental questions we have been asked during lockdown. We hope to do more of these over the coming weeks. If you have anything you would like advice on please forward your questions to our Facebook inbox.

We also participated in a fundraising event for Women’s Aid charity, which managed to raise over £4,000.

The team

Aside from attending online webinars, having video practice meetings and planning improvements at the practice we are pleased to say that we are all well and are remaining positive during these difficult times.
Sam has enjoyed spending time with his family and going for walks. Katy and Kaye have been kept busy home schooling their children. Lisa has turned her hand to baking (they look delicious – we hope she continues this hobby!) Sarah and Margaret have both been busy in their gardens and Jeni has been redecorating her kitchen!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for choosing Parklands Dental Practice to care for you and your smile – Thank you for bearing with us while we have had to rearrange appointments and thank you for all your kind words and messages of support!

We really can’t wait to see you all!

Stay safe.
